Investigation of the impact of anthropogenic heat flux within an Urban Land Surface model and PILPS-urban
نویسندگان
چکیده
10 Results from the first international urban model comparison experiment (PILPS-Urban) suggested that models which 11 neglected the anthropogenic heat flux within the surface energy balance performed at least as well as models that 12 include the source term, but this could not be explained. The analyses undertaken show that the results from PILPS13 Urban were masked by the signal from including vegetation, which was identified in PILPS-Urban as being important. 14 Including the anthropogenic heat flux does give improved performance, but the benefit is small for the site studied 15 given the relatively small magnitude of this flux relative to other terms in the surface energy balance. However, there is 16 no further benefit from including temporal variations in the flux at this site. The importance is expected to increase at 17 sites with a larger anthropogenic heat flux and greater temporal variations. 18 19

Impact of urban land cover change on land surface temperature
The rapid growth in urban population is seen to create a need for the development of more urban infrastructures. In order to meet this need, natural surfaces such as vegetation are been replaced with non-vegetated surfaces such as asphalt and bricks which has the ability to absorb heat and release it later. This change in land cover is seen to increase the land surface temperature. Previous stu...
متن کاملEffect of Vegetation Cover on Energy Consumption Optimization due to Reduction of Urban Heat Island intensity: Case of Tehran Metropolitan Area
Urbanization through rapid constructions, is the main cause of high heat absorption in urban centers. In addition, the accumulation of heat energy resulted by removal of vegetation cover, has contributed to formation of urban heat islands (UHIs). The spatial distribution of heat intensity in Tehran Metropolitan Area was studied, and the influence of land use and green cover were analyzed in the...

Inclusion of vegetation is critical for urban land surface models (ULSM) to represent reasonably the turbulent sensible and latent heat flux densities in an urban environment. Here the Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES), an ULSM, is used to simulate the Bowen ratio at a number of urban and rural sites with vegetation cover varying between 1% and 98%. The results show that JULES is able...

The term urban heat island (UHI), described the phenomenon of climate change in urban areas compared with surrounding rural areas. UHI effects include: increasing in energy and water consumption, air pollution expansion and interfering in thermal comfort. Surface urban heat island (SUHI) contains patterns of land surface temperature (LST) in urban areas that has interaction with UHI in urban ca...
